This position will be responsible for various GIS functions and may assist the Chief Land Surveyor, Surveyors, Engineering Technicians, and Inspectors in surveying/GPS, inspections, design, drafting or other engineering functions. Minimum qualifications: Associates Degree and four years GIS experience with emphasis on ESRI products.

Hamilton County is seeking a GIS Coordinator

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Strong cartography and cadastral mapping skills preferred.  GIS duties will include but are not limited to: prepare maps, exhibits, reports and responding to requests from the general public, other county departments and other agencies related to the cadastral base map as well as supporting and training other county offices in the use of GIS.  Must be able to work with multiple databases and integrate them to create applications. Background in aerial photography is beneficial as is scripting ability in python.  Attendance at ISAC and IGIC functions may be required. The successful candidate will assist in updating and maintaining the county website.  This position reports directly to the Assessor.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Include an Associate's degree or two (2) years of course work in GIS, geography, computer science, engineering or closely related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the work.  A valid Iowa driver’s license is required.
 
A successful candidate must be able to work independently and with multiple task assignments, meet established deadlines, be familiar with ESRI’s 10.x, Microsoft’s Word, Excel and Access software.  Working knowledge of Parcel Builder and GeoLynx, Camavision, SQL and Solutions a plus.
 
SALARY:
Salary range between $35,000 and $45,000 based on qualifications (evidence of certifications, advanced education, experience, and other qualifications).  Full benefit package is also included.

Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst

GIS Job Opportunity

Atlantic Municipal Utilities (Atlantic, IA) is seeking applicants for a GIS / AMI Technician. 

This position will participate in the following job functions: 
Maintain detailed utility electric and water distribution system maps and record drawings. 
Provides Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) of Utility facilities. 
This will require maintaining Geo Databases, GIS layers, collecting field data, and distributing GIS updates to various departments. 
This position is also responsible for supporting Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program.
Also assists with other IT functions at the direction of the IT Coordinator.
Further, this position with assist Cass County with their GIS needs, including parcel editing.

This position requires a minimum of Associate's Degree in GIS, Drafting and Design, Construction or Civil Engineering Design Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or a minimum of 2 years related on-the-job experience using GIS and mapping software and technology or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Compensation ranges from $20.13 - $28.26/hr. Starting rate depends on qualifications and experience. Top rate will be reached within 48 months.

Job Description:
The GIS technician is an entry-level position for a motivated, self starter who wants to be challenged. The successful applicant will report to the Director of the GIS and be located in the Leon Iowa office of JCG Land Services. Primary duties will include: data management and creation, mapping and attribution of land based information, research and spreadsheet development, provide supportive maps and analysis upon request, and other projects related to client requests.

Duties and responsibilities:
o   Provides technical and administrative assistance for GIS Director and staff.
o   Creation of GIS features and attribute data
o   Operates  GIS equipment, software, data, and products
o   Assists in the design, development and creation of databases, maps and other related projects
o   Attend meetings, conferences, workshops
o   Present GIS work at meetings, conferences, workshops as required
o   Project management (able to accept a project independently and in a team work environment, design methodology to complete project, and produce final product(s)
o   Related duties assigned by project managers and GIS Director
o   GPS field work is possible

Qualifications and Skills:
o   AA or BS Degree in Geography, Cartography, Natural Resources, Computer Science, Planning, Environment Science or a related field.
o   1 year experience (coursework and internships are acceptable under guidelines) using ArcGIS 10.
o    Knowledge in ArcGIS, geodatabases, basic programming and GPS is desirable.
o   Familiarity with GIS applications in planning, utility or related intergovernmental process is desired.
o   Understanding PLSS and legal descriptions
o   Fundamental knowledge and skill in the operation of GIS equipment, including computer hardware, plotter/printer setup, GPS.
o   Knowledge of databases such as Access (preferred), SQL, or SDE
o   Excellent oral and written communication skills
o   Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
o   Ability to complete short-term projects with tight deadlines
o   Desire to learn new skills related to GIS development including computer hardware, software, extensions.
o    Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, associates, government officials and the general public.
