Wapello County intern opportunity



Wapello County is seeking an individual for the position of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Summer Intern. The Intern will work with the County GIS Coordinator and will be assigned to the County-wide Economic Development Project. The Intern will use best practices and research to develop a report/packet meant to better serve developers and investors seeking property in the Greater Wapello County Region. This project will focus on economic development within the County and will also involve areas of Planning and GIS.
Requirements for this position:
·         General knowledge of the ArcMap Suite;
·         Have the ability to research precedent and other best practices to develop a current and useful template for future use;
·         Communicate effectively to obtain information from utility companies, various County Offices, and other entities within Wapello County;
·         The Intern will live close to the area and have the ability to report to the GIS Department as often as needed;
·         Preference: be able to work with Photoshop, InDesign or other related image editing software for creating the report;
·         Preference 2: Have a recent version of Arcmap installed on a personal computer and able to work with this computer for the position;
Qualified applicants will have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent, have a valid driver’s license, and be enrolled in a geospatial information systems or Regional Planning related course of study for the 2016 Fall term. The Intern will be expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
